F-R-E-E-D-O-M
Freedom! Have we ever thought this word? I don’t think so because we enjoy it everyday. Have we ever said ‘thanks GOD’ for it? Well, what’s on your mind? Perhaps some people feel nothing about that word, even they don’t know the meaning of it, Me neither! Before I met him.
But now that word shakes me up and so thankful that I am FREE. Exactly I have got my freedom and can possibly do anything that I love, such as : meeting up with friends whenever I feel like, doing any activities that I am keen on, and the best thing is I do not need to share my room with a crowd of people.
Umm, why do I write such things? Well, it is actually not a good story to tell but at least it rings a bell that we have to appreciate the time given by God. Yesterday, I went to a place that I had never expected to go in. It was PRISON. Please, do not take me wrong that way! I did not kill people or sell marijuana that caused me in there. I’m a good citizen (Though I once ran over into crossing cat and it died).
Here the story is.. My hair dresser was arrested for having some illegal drugs (Marijuana). He is my step father’s best friend and I get used to having my hair cut on his saloon (I think I should let my hair long while waiting for him to be freed for three years because he has three year punishment:D) . My step father is a very good make-up artist (I have no clue for the proper word) and his job does make-up for brides and bridegrooms. No wonder, he has a lot of a half man/woman friends. My hair dresser is one of them. Mother, Step father, and I went to see him. We were in waiting room and then an officer there called our names and asked us to come in to a big room with so many people inside. To differentiate which ones were prisoners, it was not too hard. It was because the prisoners were in blue uniform. My hair dresser was so happy knowing us there. I did not talk much because I was observing some prisoners’ family that finally met up with the prisoners. They hugged each other, it looked like ‘ Tali Kasih’ where a family ended up meeting them after long time not seeing each other. I almost cried in tears. What a sad sight! I lost my words.
Then, there was a little girl next to me. She sat on her father’s lap. Her father was in blue uniform and she might not think that her father was a prisoner. She spoon-fed her father and sometimes laughed together. That’s sweet. My mind was going vacation, tried to guess what he supposed to tell his daughter later ‘Why should he stay in such a place?’. God bless them.
Well, when I was younger, I thought that prison was only for bad people but now I make up my after my hair dresser said that some innocent people were in as well. How come? He told me that one of his roommates is a 17 year old teenager named Arif. He was one of the innocents. His father was a pedicab driver and he was sitting on a bench in the park after school then a man whom he even did not know came to him and gave him a sickle. The man said that he needed to go to the toilet and asked him to watch his sickle. Ten minutes later, troops were doing sudden patrol and arrested that poor boy. The troops might think that the sickle was his. Poor him! He had been set up.
My hair dresser said that his room was occupied around 20 people. The room had a very small bathroom inside. So when one wanted to go to the toilet, it was like a sin because sometimes others were eating or praying at a time. He found it hard to use the toilet because he though that he was a woman. Going to the toilet could not be kept, otherwise they had got stomachache. He, my hair dresser, should wait till late at night or midnite to use toilet. Move to other topic, meals in prison was not ice. Vegetable soup was tasteless and it seemed the chef just put water and vegetables in. It was also overcooked, yuck! He used to be so picky at food but now he can eat anything even meals that he does not like. Sometimes, we will feel something precious after we do not have it anymore. Well, I am so thankful for every meal I have. I eat up my vegetable soup and I can say it is very yummy though it is salty, at least not tasteless;D

Thanks GOD, I’m OUTSIDE!
